Moms Need Nurturing Too

Hey Mamas, it’s Tuesday and I have a reminder for you. Don’t give up on your needs just because you’ve become a mom. I know being a mom is very time consuming, especially in those early years.

By the time you’re done taking care of everyone else, you often find you have little energy to focus on accomplishing some of the goals you previously had set for yourself.

Listen Mamas: don’t count yourself out. I have been guilty of this. For the last few years, I have been on a long extended leave of absence from Brenda. I got so caught up in being a mom, a nurturer, and a giver that I lost sight of my need to replenish and pour back into myself. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the blessing of being a mom, but burning myself out affected my ability to truly enjoy being a mom.

You may feel like you don’t have much time, but it’s amazing what a few minutes of dedication to yourself each day will do for your spirit. This is still a work in progress for me, but I’m definitely doing more self-nurturing today than before.

Read below for some activities I practice to pour back into myself as well as some I’ve heard of from others. Your interests or methods may be different from these. It doesn’t matter. The key is establishing a habit of doing something for yourself each day that nurtures and strengthens you. Something that energizes you from the inside out.

Here are some examples:

  • Getting a massage
  • Meditation/Prayer
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Picking up a hobby (sewing, playing an instrument or gardening)
  • Having a spa day
  • Allowing someone to do something for you
  • Working on a business idea you’ve had
  • Taking a nap
  • Taking a day off from work to do nothing
  • Going for a walk or jog

For more self-care ideas, check out this list on Adore Them. Also, comment and share some of your self-nurturing activities with me. I want to hear them. Let’s build each other up and inspire one of another in our motherhood journey. Even if you’re not a mom, feel free to chime in as well.
